The official royal wedding portraits of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by photographer Alexi Lubomriski just dropped, and they're as magnificent and gorgeous as you'd expect. The photos were taken at Frogmore House following the carriage procession, and there is one major detail about Markle's look that changed between the ceremony and the afternoon reception. The new Duchess of Sussex's hair looks totally different.

It was hard to get a good look at Markle's "messy bun" for the ceremony, created by hairstylist Serge Normant. It was disguised under a 16-foot long veil and tiara, after all. But what everyone around the world did see was her face-framing layers falling out from behind her ears during their vows. The internet was not a fan of her stray hairs, wondering why she didn't use a "#bobbypin" or quick blast of hairspray to keep them back and off her face. Normant has since told reporters he doesn't use a lot of product in any of his client's hair, especially not on an occasion as big as the royal wedding. "It's a messy bun, we call it. Messy in a controlled way," he said. Normant was focused on "making sure it doesn't become a whole mess after a few hours" without making the hair look shellacked. "I don't overload the hair with products in general and certainly not on this day," he says. Perfectly messy hair is, after all, one of Markle's signature looks.

In the official portraits, not only is it easier to see Normant's genius coiled and pinned bun, but Markle's beloved face-framing tendrils are out from behind her ears. Curled away from her face, the two pieces on each side add a bit of casual glamour to her look. As casual as a new Duchess can look wearing a tiara on her royal wedding day. Markle looks relaxed and confident in the portrait, probably because she was finally wearing her hair in a style that she loves.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their wedding on Saturday," Kensington Palace captioned one Instagram of Harry and Meghan sitting on the steps together.

"They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world."
