Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle Sr. didn't walk his daughter down the aisle this morning, but he was able to watch the ceremony in California. He is reportedly recovering from heart surgery.

"My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness," he told TMZ this morning. He also said that watching the wedding was both "emotional and joyful."

Markle Sr. had been confirmed not only to attend the royal wedding, but also to give the bride away, but last week, he told TMZ that he would not be attending due to the "fallout" over paparazzi photographs which he admitted were staged. At that time, the outlet also reported that Markle Sr. had suffered a heart attack.

Markle Sr. went back and forth over the course of the week, saying that he would like to be there for his daughter, but then ultimately sharing that he would have to miss the royal wedding due to his surgery.

"I'm ok. It will take a long time to heal," he told TMZ on Wednesday. "Staying in the hospital a few more days. Not allowed to get excited."

Markle confirmed that her father would not be in attendance at her wedding on Thursday morning.

"Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health," reads the message, which was posted on Twitter.

"I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday."

Prince Charles ultimately accompanied Markle down the aisle. The change was made so close to the wedding ceremony that Markle Sr. was still listed in the ceremony program.
