Meghan Markle is currently preparing for her historic wedding to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle, but as royal fans are well aware, this isn't her first wedding. Years before meeting her prince, the former actress, 36, was married to film producer Trevor Engelson, 41.

Markle's former spouse has made a few headlines since she started dating a member of the royal family. First, it turns out he's working on a project about an actress marrying a prince. And now, it seems he's fleeing the states ahead of the royal wedding (more on that later).

Here's what you need to know about Engelson:

He and Meghan were married for two years.

Markle and Engelson started dating in 2004, got engaged in 2010, and tied the knot in 2011, Us reports. They had a quiet getaway wedding in Ocho Rios, Jamaica with 102 guests.

The couple parted ways in August 2013, but kept their separation on the down-low. They reportedly divorced for "irreconcilable differences." Meghan had landed her role in Suits months before the wedding, The Telegraph reports, and they had trouble maintaining a long-distance relationship.

"Trevor and Meghan’s marriage broke down when she moved to Toronto, where Suits is filmed, and it was the long distance that tore them apart," a source told Woman's Day last year.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton alleges in his book, Meghan, A Hollywood Princess, that Markle "sent Trevor her diamond wedding and engagement rings back by registered mail."

He's reportedly leaving the country ahead of the royal wedding.

"Trevor is heading out of the country this weekend to escape the mania," a source told Us Weekly today. It's unclear where Engelson is headed, but the insider believes he could be eyeing South America. In that case, we won't have to worry about him showing up to Windsor Castle unannounced.

You've probably seen one of his movies.

Engelson, who hails from Great Neck, NY, is currently a film producer and talent manager based in LA, according to The Telegraph. He runs Underground Management, which also handles screenwriters, directors, authors, and more.

His movie credits, per IMDb, include Remember Me (2010), which starred Robert Pattinson; All About Steve (2009), starring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper; and License to Wed (2007), starring Robin Williams, John Krasinski, and Mandy Moore. His TV projects include the recent Heathers reboot and Snowfall.

He's producing a TV show about an actress who marries a prince-but the project is on hold.

In September 2017, Deadline reported that Engelson was working on a sit com with Fox about a man whose wife divorced him for a British prince. The premise would include sharing custody of their kids with the royal family.

Per Deadline: "The comedy originated with Engelson and fellow producer Farah who, in a conversation, mused about what would’ve been if Engelson and Markle had kids and he had to share custody with the British Royal family one day."

However, it seems the project has been put on hold. Brit tabloid The Sun reported this week that Engelson has paused production on the show. The series was originally intended to air in the aftermath of the royal wedding, but a TV exec reportedly told The Sun that Markle reached out to him through friends to ax it. Engelson is now focusing on other projects.
