In case you might have missed it, summer 2019 has officially been claimed as "hot girl summer".
Megan Thee Stallion's catchphrase has led to a major pop culture movement, with the words hot girl summer popping up everywhere from Instagram captions to celeb social media feeds. And apparently, things are only getting, ahem, hotter, because Megan teamed up with Nicki Minaj to turn her phrase into a song.
The track "Hot Girl Summer" was officially released on Aug. 9, and for this major moment in music, which is sure to pop up on every Instagram Story post related to summer, the rapper teamed up with Nicki and Ty Dolla $ign, Pitchfork reported.
Fans have already latched onto the single, including one person who declared the duo worthy of high office. "Can’t believe nicki minaj and megan thee stallion decided to collaborate together and end depression by releasing Hot Girl Summer... nothing but respect for MY presidents," the person tweeted. "Meg and Nicki really out did themselves on the hot girl summer song," another fan remarked. Even Ariana Grande got in on the love for the single, and shared a single emoji of love on Nicki's gram.
If you're unfamiliar with what the term hot girl summer encapsulates, Megan previously explained in a tweet. "Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU,” she said. “Having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth [and] being the life of the party.”
As Billboard previously reported, Megan is in the process of trademarking the phrase, though there's no word on if the copyright filing has been completed since its July 10 filing date. In the meantime, the entire world seems more than happy to get on board with the trend, and support a "Hot Girl Summer" even into fall.
