A career as storied and monumental as Sue Bird’s deserves all of the celebration it’s receiving and more. And her fiancée, Megan Rapinoe, agrees. Rapinoe posted an adorable photo of Bird on her IG to congratulate her.

The photo is a portrait of Bird as a brace-faced young girl. “The Greatest to ever do it. I am so proud of you❤️,” Rapinoe captioned the post.

Bird was set to retire after her 20th season with the Seattle Storm in 2021, but after hearing the crowd chant “one more year” after the last game of that season, Bird came back for her 21st year. She will go down in history as one of the most iconic WNBA players in the league’s history. She’s won the most games in WNBA history, was selected as an All-Star 13 times, and has won four championships in the span of three decades.

But Bird’s impact resonates far beyond basketball. Like her fiancée Rapinoe, Bird is actively helping to change the social landscape we live in. When USWNT striker Alex Morgan approached her to help start a media and commerce production company, TOGETHXR, with snowboarder Chloe Kim and swimmer Simone Manuel, she didn’t bat an eye. TOGETHXR’s mission is to amplify women in media and culture who only receive four percent of coverage in the sphere. Bird and Rapinoe also created their own clothing brand, Love Is, which helps raise money for organizations fighting for equality.

Responding to Rapinoe’s IG post, Bird said, “NOT THE BRACES 🤪. A million times thank you ☺️🙏❤️.”
