Mega-adoption event at Florida Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds this weekend

PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — If you are looking to add a furry new member to your family, make sure to attend this mega-adoption event this weekend.

Shelters from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, Sumter, Manatee, Orange and Marion counties will be participating in this event.

It will take place at the Florida Strawberry Festival Grounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday with hundreds of adoptable dogs.

Adoption fees are free and pets will be vaccinated, spayed, neutered and microchipped.

“Shelters all across the state right now are overwhelmed. They are inundated with animals,” Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center Business Manager Chelsea Waldeck said.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin and his wife Mariah will also be supporting the adoption event through the Team Godwin Foundation.

“The more that we can help get adopted, it really warms our hearts,” Godwin said.

Last year’s event managed to find homes for 260 dogs.

The adoption event will be held Friday-Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. inside the Grimes Family Agricultural Center located on the Florida Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds.
