How Meg 2: The Trench Was Made

To coincide with Meg 2: The Trench’s digital release on August 25, Warner Bros. has released a new featurette taking you behind the scenes of the monster-mashing movie.

See director Ben Wheatly wearing a big floppy hat and pointing a lot, get a glimpse of early visualizations of the supersized star shark, and cast your eyes on a storyboard laying out the fight between a massive octopus and its equally colossal Meg sparring partner.

There’s also some interesting insight along the way, such as how on Earth did the director of Kill List, High Rise, and A Field in England come to helm a big budget studio sequel in which Jason Statham battles the world’s biggest sea creature.

According to Wheatly: “I was a big fan of the original Meg, and basically I got sent The Meg 2 script and when I read that I was like 'wow, yeah, this is basically all of filmmaking'. So it really appealed to me.”

It’s also appealed to audiences, with a respectable $300 million at the global box office, even if it hasn’t quite done its predecessor’s numbers (The Meg made over $530 million worldwide).

Meg 2: The Trench is now available to buy for $24.99 on Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and others digital platforms. Or you can opt for a 48-hour rental for $19.99.

Own it on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD October 24.
