Timothy Olyphant is back as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in the new Justified spinoff, Justified: City Primeval—and this time, he's brought his 20-year-old daughter, Vivian, along for the ride. The original series, which ran for six seasons, ended with Givens relocating back to Miami to be closer to his young child and ex-wife, Winona (Natalie Zea). The spinoff picks up a decade later.

The FX series not only marks the father-daughter duo’s first project together, but also Vivian’s acting debut. While promoting the show on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Olyphant shared that despite being a new actress, Vivian experienced no first-time jitters on set.

"One of the things about Justified in particular is that, over time, you've earned a little bit of a reputation where perhaps people… can be a little nervous around you, or feel intimidated," he explained. "We hired the one person, guaranteed, who doesn't feel that way at all. In fact, she's not only not nervous around me, she's kinda over it."

How did Vivian Olyphant get cast in Justified?

Casting Vivian Olyphant to play her father’s onscreen daughter wasn’t always the plan, Justified showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner revealed to Entertainment Weekly. Andron admitted that they were actually “horrified” when they found out that Timothy Olyphant was submitting his daughter’s casting tape.

“We were like, 'This is a no-win. This is brutal. If it's not good, what are we going to do?'" Andron explained. Luckily, Vivian nailed her audition and as Dinner noted, the father-daughter duo “brought their own baggage” to the script.

“They had a ball doing it, and it was a lot of fun,” Andron said.

What has Timothy Olyphant said about working with his daughter?

Timothy and Vivian Olyphant may have brought their family “baggage” to set, but they also brought the shenanigans. While appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Timothy revealed that his daughter had several tricks up her sleeve during filming.

"She did all that bulls--t where she'd write, like, 'favorite Olyphant' on a big board and put my name and her name," he shared. "I lost in a landslide. Like, a landslide! There was like one Star Wars geek that voted for me…It was terrible!"

At the end of the day, though, Timothy said being able to star alongside Vivian was “an incredible experience.”

"She was remarkable, and it was a joy to work with her. She worked very hard," he said. "She auditioned for it, and I wasn't surprised that they hired her, and it was really special."
