Meet the local KFB Farm Markets: Warren Farm Greenhouse

May 20—Madison County is home to two of Kentucky Farm Bureau's Certified farm markets. One of those markets is across from Chenault Vineyards in Warren Farm Greenhouse.

Tammy and Eddie Warren own the venue, which sold and worked with tobacco for many years.

With the use of tobacco declining over recent years, and with how labor intensive the crop is known to be, the Warrens decided to switch from growing tobacco to growing flowers on the property.

"[Tobacco] was how we made our living," Eddie Warren said.

Eddie said that this is the third YEAR that they've stepped away from working with tobacco plants, saying that tobacco is a very intensive crop and that a lot of farmers with the decline of tobacco chose to exit the industry.

Eddie told the Register that the decline was gradual, which gave the husband/wife duo time to plan a pivot and make a move away from tobacco gradually.

From there, they switched over to selling flowers and other plants on a regular basis and they've loved the clientele they've picked up.

What sets Warren Farm apart is that all their plants outside of bigger house plants, tropicals, shrubs and trees along with ferns are all grown on site within one of the five greenhouses.

They also grow vegetable plants on site as well.

"We start in February, and we open in the first week of April if the weather is nice and permits us to open," Tammy Warren said.

Warren Farm will sell products until about mid-June and then will prepare themselves for the fall season. The farm reopens the day after Labor Day to sell their fall products, which are primarily mums which are planted in June.

Warren Farm Greenhouse is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
