Meet These Five Moms Competing at the World Champs

Becoming a mother used to be thought of as a sign of retirement for professional athletes, but we now know that for many, it's just the beginning. These five moms represent some of the amazing mothers lining up at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a 36-year-old mother to her son Zyon (born in 2017) and is the most decorated Jamaican track and field athlete of all time after her bronze medal placement during the 100m this year in Budapest, which she ran in 10.77 seconds.

In 2019, Fraser-Pryce became the first mother in 24 years to win an Olympic or world 100m world title at the age of 32. Fans should look forward to Fraser-Pryce in the rematch of the women's 100m at the 2024 Olympics.

Nia Ali

American hurdler Nia Ali, 34, is a mom of three – Titus (8), Yuri (5), Kenzo (2) -. During the 2023 USA Championships, Ali won the 100m hurdles in a time of 12.37 seconds. She will again go for gold in the upcoming 100m hurdles final and came in second in her semi-finals heat with a time of 12.49 seconds.

Faith Kipyegon

Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, 29, is the 2023 world champion in the 1500m, clinching the title in 3:54.87. Kipyegon welcomed her daughter, Alyn, in 2018. Kipyegon didn't rush back to racing and instead took a full year away from racing to recover from her C-Section birth and spend time with her family. Since then, Kipyegon has roared to success, most notably setting a new 1500m world record in June 2023 in 3:49.11.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo

Shaunae Miller-Uibo competes for the Bahamas and lined up on the blocks at the 2023 World Championship just four months after giving birth to her son this past April. The 2023 World Championship was Miller-Uibo's first 400m race of the season, and she decided to attempt to defend her 2022 400m world title (49.11 seconds) only weeks before this year's world championship.

Miller-Uibo finished seventh in her heat and did not move onto this year's semi-finals in the 400m, but is sure to be back stronger than ever for the 2024 Olympics.

Keira D'Amato

American Keira D'Amato will be waiting until the final day of the 2023 World Athletics Championships for her chance at a podium in the women's marathon. D'Amato, 38, is a mother of two to Tommy (8) and Quin (6).

Her personal best in the marathon is 2:19:12, and she'll have to bring all her "mom powers" on Saturday for an extra boost in the competitive women's marathon field.
