Surprise! Harry Styles just dropped a new music video for “Satellite,” the eleventh track from his 2022 studio album Harry’s House, and we’re simply over the moon (pun very intended). The dreamy, synth-infused bop remains a fan-favorite of the Grammy Award-winning artist, so naturally, we can’t help but wonder what (or who 👀) the song is about.

“Satellite” is anchored around this notion of aimlessly going around and around in circles — ya know, kind of like a satellite. Although an upbeat tune, the lyrics convey the feeling of being lost and broken-hearted. In the first verse, Harry sings, “You got a new life / Am I bothering you? / Do you wanna talk?,” which suggests a break-up or failed relationship.

Throughout the song, there’s a clear disconnect between Harry and the subject, who’s just referred to as “she.” Harry sings about “spinning out” and seemingly wanting to be needed and loved by this person, but are distanced from them: “Spinning out, waiting for ya to pull me in / I can see you're lonely down there / Don't you know that I am right here?,” he belts out in the chorus.

In the second verse he changes his tune, and instead of begging to be pulled in, Harry sings, “I'm in an L.A. mood / I don't wanna talk to you.” From there, the track doubles back to the chorus and bridge, repeating Harry’s wish “to be there for ya.” Overall, the song could be about the ups and downs of relationships, the uncontrollable feeling of falling in and out of love, the messiness of break-ups, and the journey of finding oneself.

Now for the who of it all. First, let’s rewind a little — Harry’s House debuted on May 20, 2022. In his April 2022 cover interview with Better Homes & Gardens, the artist shared that he started writing during the pandemic and actually finished the album before the Fall 2021 leg of his Love On Tour. At this time, Harry was in a relationship with director-actress Olivia Wilde. The two sparked romance rumors in January 2020, and maintained a super low-key relationship until their November 2022 split.

Considering the fact that Harry was very much with Olivia during the writing and release of “Satellite,” it seems unlikely that it’s specifically about her, and might rather be about any of his other past relationships or lovers.

The “Satellite” music video (featuring a Wall-E-adjacent roving satellite 🥺) again portrays that sense of feeling lost and confused. Check it out below if you haven’t yet (we’ve personally played it 18 times already), and if you’re still not convinced about the message behind the bop, keep scrolling for the full lyrics to Harry’s “Satellite.”

[Verse 1]
You got a new life
Am I bothering you? Do you wanna talk?
We share the last line
Then we drink the wall till we wanna talk

[Pre-Chorus]
I go 'round and 'round
Satellite

[Chorus]
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here?
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here?

[Post-Chorus]
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya

[Verse 2]
I'm in an L.A. mood
I don't wanna talk to you
She said, "Give me a day or two"

[Pre-Chorus]
I go 'round and 'round
Satellite

[Chorus]
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here?
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here?

[Bridge]
Right here, right here
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya
I'm here, right here
Wishin' I could be there for ya
Be there for ya
Be there for ya, for ya
For ya
Be there for ya

[Chorus]
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in (Spinnin' out, waitin')
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here? (Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya)
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in (For ya, for ya, for ya)
I can see you're lonely down there
Don't you know that I am right here?
Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya to pull me in (For ya, for ya, for ya)
I can see you're lonely down there (Spinnin' out, waitin' for ya)
Don't you know that I am right here?
