Superhero movie fans still have a long wait ahead of them before the Fantastic Four make their long-anticipated debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it looks like that project may finally have found its Mr. Fantastic.

Deadline reports that Pedro Pascal, star of The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, is "in talks" to play Reed Richards, the genius scientist with a stretchy, superhuman body who leads the famous team. Pascal is the latest in a long list of actors whose names have been linked to the role; Jake Gyllenhaal was rumored to have been in the running for the part, as was Adam Driver. (John Krasinski, a favorite of fan casting online, played an alternate reality version of the character in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.)

If Pascal goes ahead and signs on for a Fantastic Four movie, not to mention the inevitable sequels and cameo appearances in other interwoven MCU movies, it will add to his already-packed schedule and resume of hugely popular franchise fare, which to date include Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and video game adaptation The Last of Us.

As with all things Marvel, fans online had plenty to say about Pascal's rumored casting as Mr. Fantastic. The actor certainly has his admirers, and many expressed their excitement at the prospect of seeing him in the iconic blue suit, with some even jokingly speculating that he may once again find himself playing a grumpy older character who must protect a child, for which he is fast becoming typecast.

Others, however, were a little disappointed that their own preferred choices aren't up for the role. And a couple of die-hard lovers of the Fantastic Four movies from the 2000s took the opportunity to remind everyone that Ioan Gruffudd was pitch-perfect as Reed Richards.
