It's a fact that grandmothers are extremely influential when it comes to family—but they've also been taking over pop culture as of late: Grandmillennial interiors feature multiple patterns and textures that evoke your grandparents’ living room (minus the plastic couch covers), while coastal grandmother fashion takes usually-frumpy cardigans and walking shoes and transforms them into Nancy Meyers-romcom-ready outfits.

Now, McDonald’s is taking the love a step further with its new Grandma McFlurry, the most recent in a line of limited-time McFlurries that includes the Grimace Shake and Strawberry Shortcake.

“Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they’re having a major moment influencing culture—inspiring trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry,” Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s, said in a statement. “The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we’re excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma figure in all our lives.”

What Does the Grandma McFlurry Taste Like?

The exact flavors of the Grandma McFlurry haven’t been revealed, but those who’ve tried it say it has hints of vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch—any combination of which sounds delicious.

“It tastes like I put a spoon into my grandma’s purse and ate it!” one taste-tester said on TikTok.

The ingredients include flavored syrup, ice cream, and "crunchy bits," which people are speculating are chopped-up butterscotch candies, reminiscent of the sweets grandmas always have stashed away.

"It comes with a $5 check to buy a CD," a user on a McDonald's employee Reddit thread joked. "Say less. I'm breaking 18 traffic laws to get me one. Update: three tickets, a court date, and 12 minutes later, the ice cream machine was down," another said.

McDonald’s teamed up with singer Remi Wolf to release an updated version of the classic “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” for grandmas and grandkids to enjoy while savoring their Grandma McFlurry. Originally sung by Marvin Gaye in 1965, grandmas everywhere will instantly recognize the tune, transporting them back to their younger days when the only McDonald’s shake flavors were the classic chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. In a special tribute to Latina grandmas, two-time Latin GRAMMY nominee and Puerto Rican star Jay Wheeler covered the iconic Latin song "Piel Canela."

Grandma McFlurries are available nationwide starting May 21, so be sure to indulge in the new treat and toast to those special ladies everywhere whose hugs are as sweet and satisfying as ice cream.
