The chicken sandwich market has gotten intense lately, with Popeyes and Chick-fil-A duking it out on Twitter over who has the best sandwich. Apparently McDonald’s wants a piece of the action, because the chain is testing out two new crispy chicken sandwiches in select locations.

McDonald's is testing its new Crispy Chicken Sandwich and its new Deluxe Crispy Chicken Sandwich this winter. The test is happening in Houston, TX, and Knoxville, TN, according to a tweet from McDonald’s. A spokesperson further confirmed the news to Delish as well.

The Crispy Chicken Sandwich sounds suspiciously like the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. It features a fried chicken filet served on a buttery potato roll, all topped off with butter and “crinkle cut dill pickles.” The deluxe will be topped with mayo, lettuce, and tomato.

For comparison’s sake, the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich is a breaded, pressure-cooked chicken breast served on a buttered bun with dill pickle chips. Hmm. The McDonald's sandwich also comes in a “deluxe” version, which includes tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo. McDonald’s is teasing these as two different sandwiches, BTW.

The test runs from December 2 through January 26 at select locations, and McDonald’s isn’t being shy about it. “Houston. Knoxville. Lunch tomorrow? No beef,” it tweeted.

People were understandably all kinds of excited in the comments:

McDonald's already has some fried chicken sandwiches (including the McChicken), but this new test could make it a prime contender in the chicken sandwich wars. In other words...we're only getting started!

No word on plans to expand the test to other markets, but McDonald’s hinted on Twitter that it wanted to wait to see how things go in Houston and Knoxville first. Fingers crossed!
