McDonald's announced a list of refreshed company values at a Worldwide Connection event that was a virtual meet-up of workers, franchisees, corporate leaders, and suppliers. The event replaced an in-person convention that was originally scheduled for April and the new values are meant to address systemic issues of discrimination as well as COVID-19-related safety measures.

The brand's biennial Worldwide Convention event that takes place in person in Orlando was originally planned for this past April but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The virtual event was instead held in July and McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski took the time to announce new values put into place by the company to address issues tied to social justice and the pandemic.

The five reimagined values, according to Nation's Restaurant News, include:

We Put Our Customers and People First: This is how we serve. When we have great people that are committed to the best possible customer service, we thrive.
We Open Our Doors to Everyone: This is about inclusion and our commitment to creating opportunity for everybody.
We Do the Right Thing: This is about integrity, and doing the right thing for the right reasons.
We Are Good Neighbors: This is about community and fulfilling our purpose to feed and foster community at the local level through the dedication of local owners who know the market best.
We Get Better Together: This is about family, and constantly working to make ourselves better for our own family and the families we serve.

They believe these values will help accelerate change and cultivate diversity everywhere from the McDonald's hiring process to advertising campaigns for the company.

McDonald's also announced a partnership with Mayo Clinic to revamp COVID-19 measures and ensure safety for customers and employees. This comes after the decision for everyone inside McDonald's establishments to begin wearing face coverings starting August 1.
