For those who have been anxiously anticipating the fallout from the dramatic ending of the first season of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown, there's good news. Not only has Paramount+ announced the debut date for the Jeremy Renner-starring show's second outing, we also have our first look at what's ahead in the new season.

The series is set to return early next year; the first episode will hit the streaming service on January 15, 2023.

As for what to expect from the series' second installment, things are already looking dark for the denizens of Kingstown.

The season's official trailer (above) hints at what's in store in the wake of the prison riot that capped off the show's first season—and suffice to say it's not good news for the McLusky family.

The full-length trailer follows a teaser that Paramount+ released in early November, promising, "All that remains is chaos." Watch the full teaser here:

What is the show about?

As with the first season, the second outing will focus on the McLusky family, led by Renner's Mike, as they traverse the ins and outs of the criminal justice system, and often take the law into their own hands.

Per the official synopsis, "Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Mich., where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither."

The cast

Along with Renner, Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest will return in season two as Mike's mother Miriam, along with Emma Laird, who will reprise her role as the enigmatic Iris, and Aidan Gillen as the villainous Milo Sunter. Yellowstone alum Hugh Dillion, who is also the show's co-creator, will also return, as well as Derek Webster, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa.
