Maya Jama's off-the-shoulder bodice, skirt and matching hat is our type on paper

She can more often be found slow-mo strutting in see-through dresses, flashing major side boob in cut-out tops, and hitting up afterparties in daring naked 'fits, but yesterday [Wednesday 15 May] Maya Jama was instead attending The Sovereign's Creative Industries Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. And she looked *so* stunning dressed in a ladylike bodice and maxi skirt co-ord, finished with a matching hat for the occasion.
Of course, we shouldn't be surprised. Maya is arguably a fashion queen in her own right, sharing the same style as Dua Lipa and Amelia Gray with all three celebrities wearing the exact same outfit recently. Plus, she's repped ladylike chic before, donning a Vivienne Westwood dress and accessorising with pearl jewellery – the secret to instantly adding a touch of elegance to any ensemble, FYI.
But back to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, and more specifically Maya's 'fit.
Despite appearing to be an off-the-shoulder gown, the black and blue houndstooth design is actually a bodice with overlaid straps tucked into a high-waist wrap maxi skirt featuring an ornate button fastening at the waist and a central back leg slit to allow for easy walking. Maya styled the co-ord with the matching hat, balanced on her head at a sophisticated angle along with black strappy heeled sandals and a black top handle bag for garden party perfection.
Maya made sure to tag her look on her Instagram stories, revealing she was wearing the SORO SOKE Denim Jacquard Sweetheart Bodice, Longline Skirt and Sunday’s Best Hat from British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker. The brand's pieces are locally crafted in London using deadstock fabrics alongside upcycled materials and are made using innovative techniques.
With Rihanna and India Amarteifio previously repping the designer, the Queen Charlotte actress actually wore the *exact* same ensemble to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Image Awards in March, a US-based event that honours outstanding performances in film, television, theatre, music, and literature.
Safe to say both Maya and India look absolutely gorgeous in the design.
