After two weeks of rain in NYC, an invite to Cancun, Mexico, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nizuc Resort and Spa came at the perfect time. Especially because I was told I could bring a plus-one. Now, I’m 100% single, so I invited my best friend...even though Nizuc is a popular honeymoon destination known for its romantic vibes and luxurious accommodations. But who says you can't go on a couple's trip with your bestie, right? Right.

Located just ten miles from the Cancun International Airport, Nizuc has racked up a ton of impressive awards and appeared in many “best-of” lists—and, spoiler alert, it's officially on mine. I mean, the place is GORGEOUS, with water features and art pieces everywhere you turn, plus two pools, a huge spa, and a long stretch of beach for you to get your tan on. Sounds nice, no?

Because I think you deserve to live this level of luxury as well, I'm giving you a full review of my experience, below. You know, so you can be fully prepped when you (inevitably!) decide to book your own stay.

THE FIRST IMPRESSIONS!

As soon as we walked into Nizuc’s lobby, we were met with a stunning view of the hotel's signature reflecting pool, which is filled with small trees, plants, and a gorgeous sculpture in the center. Then, as we walked to our room, we strolled along a raised pathway that took us over a glowing pool lit by flickering lamps. It was like something out of a fairy tale or a romance movie, trust. We were, in a word, impressed.

THE ROOMS!

Our room was light and airy with a gorgeous view of the ocean. And lemme tell you, hitting the “rise curtain” button on the remote each morning and watching the sunlight come streaming in was an ah-mazing way to start the day. Another highlight was the humongous bathtub, which had my BFF and I embracing platonic nudity so one of us could be soaking in bubbles while the other was doing her hair and makeup.

THE AMENITIES!

I can't shut up about the Nizuc Spa. Like, seriously. Along with your typical spa treatments—like facials and massages (my back has never felt better, tbh)—the spa offers a hydrotherapy circuit featuring a sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool, and indoor and outdoor vitality pools with hydro-massage nozzles (which basically give you a high-pressure, super-targeted water massage). Ahh.

Besides the spa, my favorite part of my Nizuc experience was that it was basically always a low-key pool party. You'll find people drinking and chatting in the main pool at all hours—and yes, I said *in* and not *by*, because we're talkin' about a swim-up bar. But, if you'd prefer not to mix alcohol (or human interaction) with your water activities, a smaller pool offers a quieter atmosphere just a short walk away.

THE FOOD AND BEV!

Nizuc has nine(!!!) separate bars and restaurants on the property, offering Mexican, Peruvian, Asian, and Mediterranean cuisine. Every meal I had was delicious, but the one that’ll stay in my memory the longest was a lunch at the Peruvian restaurant Ni. I have never been a huge ceviche person, but that changed forever after one bite here! Don’t skip dessert, either—get the dulce de leche crêpes for me, please. (And a Nizuc margarita, while you're at it.)

THE BOTTOM LINE!

All in all, this was a dreamy vacation that made me and my bestie feel very fancy and glamorous—it was an exponential step up from our usual happy hour and reality-TV-on-the-couch hangs! With the dreary NYC weather continuing, I'm constantly daydreaming about the next time we can jump in one of Nizuc's pools and beaches again. And oh, what I'd give for more of their delicious ceviche!
