May Snowstorm Forecasted to Dump Feet of Powder In West Coast Mountains

Pond skims are going to be on hold this weekend across parts of the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, and Rockies with an early May storm set to dump anywhere from several inches to feet of snow throughout the West. Palisades Tahoe put it best when they announced the weekend forecast suddenly didn’t seem ideal for their planned day of early spring, costumed debauchery.

“A late-season storm is tracking our way, and this Saturday is forecasted to look more like a Gore-Tex day than a pond skim costume day with high winds and possible snowfall,” they announced Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of the Sierra are on high wind watch along with getting a winter weather advisory. At Powderchasersthey’re calling for as much as two feet of fresh snow by the time we step into the new work week.

The forecasting site says “1-2 feet of cold freshies are likely late this weekend into early next week. The Cascades reap deepness Saturday-Sunday into early next week. Sierra grabs a quick foot above 7,500 Saturday-Sunday. Rockies deliver 12-20 inches Sunday -Monday. ❄️This storm impacts many areas of the west with cold temps and pow town mid-winter-like conditions above 4,000 feet in the PNW, 7,000 feet in the Sierra and 6,000 or lower in the Rockies. Keep your snow tires on!”

Hopefully you didn’t pack the Gore-Tex away yet. We still have at least one more storm before we go to short sleeves on groomers full time.
