Max Mara's Fall 2024 Collection Is a Lesson in Layering Your Knits
They say creativity loves constraint. And that's very much apparent in Max Mara's latest collection, which is keenly focused on the delicate art of layering knits.
Max Mara isn't a maximalist brand, by any means. Season after season, its innovation comes through in clever styling and elegant silhouettes, rendered in a strict palette of camels, greys and black. In the Fall 2024 collection, presented on the runway at Milan Fashion Week on Thursday, it's all about how these pieces fit together to create a seamless look. The house's famous boiled wool coats sweep over sheer blouses and pinstripe skirts; the collar on a cotton shirt is popped up, overlapping with the collar of a suede jumpsuit; a skinny leather belt sits atop a thicker ribbed knit one.
According to an Instagram post, the Italian brand took inspiration from French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (a.k.a. just Colette) and her short story "Sleepless Nights," aiming to channel "vignettes of poetry and self-expression" in the collection.
