The actor is reflecting on 60 years of the soap opera.

Maurice Benard is grateful for the dedicated fans of General Hospital.

As the soap opera enters its 60th year of airing on daytime television, the actor–who is as old as the show–is reflecting on what has made it so great after all of these years.

While speaking with Fox News Digital, the actor, who portrays Sonny Corinthos on the hit soap opera, thanked the fans for making the show what it is today.

"Let me tell you, the fans of General Hospital, there are no fans like those fans," he gushed. "I know now creating another show how important it is to have those loyal fans because they'll just stay with you to the end."

Benard went on to say that while not every episode hit the mark, the fans were still around to support the show and the actors.

"No show has been on 60 years," the actor noted of the soap opera's milestone achievement before stating that he was grateful to have been starring on the show for the past 30 years. "I think it's the longest, and it's just an honor to be on 30. It's great that I have a job that long, man."

"Obviously your character has to be very popular to be on that long because people come and go. So I've had, I think, the best character ever," he quipped. "Just fun to play, man."

The actor appeared on The View March 29, where he revealed what he thinks keeps fans hooked on the show. "It gives you everything – it gives you romance, it gives you love, it gives you sex, it gives you –" he said while taking a pause, not knowing what to say next as everyone burst into laughter.

On a more serious note, Benard stated, "we're in people's lives every day, unlike any other show. I'm so proud of the show."

Fans can watch General Hospital every day on ABC at 2 p.m. ET.
