Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox

Matthew Perry just may have saved Chandler Bing's reputation during the fifth season of Friends.

His character was reportedly meant to cheat on his girlfriend Monica Geller, played by Courteney Cox, during the episode titled "The One in Vegas: Part 1," but Perry apparently couldn't stand the thought.

After rehearsing the scene, the beloved actor went to the show's writers and had them cut the controversial decision, guest star Lisa Cash, who said her character was originally involved in the alleged cheating scandal, told TMZ.

She said Perry knew fans would never forgive Chandler for sleeping with the Vegas hotel employee who brought him his room service after getting into an argument with Monica, leading to the entire plot line getting removed from the script and her role as an extra totally changing. Ultimately, Cash would go on to play the flight attendant in the same episode, seen during Ross and Rachel's scene antagonizing each other on their flight.

Though costarring with Perry could have helped launch her career, Cash holds no ill will over the move, knowing that Chandler cheating on Monica could have completely changed the show's direction.

Perry died at home on Oct. 28, after an apparent drowning in his jacuzzi, though the official cause of death won’t be released until his toxicology reports come in. Perry opened up about struggling with drug and alcohol abuse in his memoir, published a year prior to his passing.

As rumors run rampant about his death, friends of the late actor have slammed the suggestion that he suffered a relapse.
