Matthew McConaughey Saved His Son from a Mountain Ram & the Story Is Bonkers

Matthew McConaughey isn’t afraid to admit that he once threw his son, Levi, 15 feet in the air to escape an “alpha” mountain ram.

On yesterday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, McConaughey played a game of “True Confessions,” which features the late-night host and The Roots’ Tarik Trotter trying to determine whether the actor’s statements are true. (Spoiler alert: They are.)

McConaughey kicks things off with a wild story about the time he visited the Grand Canyon with Levi and his wife, Camila Alves. Although the picnic started off on a good note, that all changed when a mountain ram joined the party, cornering him and his son.

When Fallon presses for details, the 48-year-old reveals that he was forced to chuck Levi to Alves. “I had to,” he said. “After I had already got rid of the dog, I had to launch Levi through the air for my wife to catch so we didn’t get rammed off the edge.”

McConaughey goes on to channel his inner Star Wars, adding, “I squared off and tried to go as Yoda as I could with this ram and just say, ‘Not me, whatever it is.’”

Once the hype died down, the True Detective star realized that he was standing between the ram and a herd of sheep.

“So we were between him and all his ladies, and he didn’t want any other male scent on his mountain,” he continued. “I was like, ‘Your mountain, sir.’”

On the bright side, the story will never get old.
