Matthew McConaughey has accomplished many things throughout his career, from winning an Oscar for his role in the Dallas Buyers Club and publishing his first memoir Greenlights to becoming a college professor at his alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin. But beyond all of that, one thing that makes Matthew stand out in Hollywood is his 15-year relationship and nine-year marriage to Brazilian-American model and designer Camila Alves-McConaughey.

Recently, in an interview with the Australian morning show Today Extra, the actor shared his secret to staying happily married. Matthew's mantra for marriage? “Don't make a straight line crooked," the 52-year-old Texas native shared. "If things are going well, keep catching green lights. If they're not, deal with them soon so they don't bubble up and get you later."

Clearly, there's something to Matthew's philosophy given how long the two have been together. The couple met in 2006, and for Matthew, it was love at first sight. While appearing as a guest on the Apple TV+ show The Oprah Conversation in October 2020, he confessed to being immediately mesmerized by Camila’s beauty. Matthew also recalled that despite there being a language barrier when they first interacted (Camila spoke Portuguese, while Matthew knew some Spanish), they formed a great connection.

“I spoke better Spanish and Portuguese that night than I have since, you know what I mean?” he told Oprah Winfrey.

And the rest is history. Matt proposed to Camila on Christmas Eve in 2011. The two were married on June 9, 2012. They're now parents to sons Levi, 13, and Livingston, 8, and daughter Vida, 11.

The couple’s love story is just as heartwarming as Matthew's famous rom-coms. It's amazing to see this A-list duo staying together while excelling at their prospective careers.
