Matt Roloff Says He and Ex-Wife Amy Basically “Create Some Drama” for 'Little People, Big World'

  • Earlier this month, Matt Roloff opened up about what happens behind the scenes of Little People, Big World.

  • The Roloff patriarch said that he and his ex-wife Amy Roloff “create interest” by essentially making up “some drama.”

  • The remarks come after the TLC star appeared on the podcast First Class Fatherhood saying that he and Amy don’t fight as often as the show makes it seem.

Matt Roloff is getting candid about what goes on behind the scenes of Little People, Big World, including made up drama.

On Sunday, April 19, the Roloff patriarch opened up on Instagram Live about the hit TLC show, and revealed that there have been not so genuine moments caught on camera. For instance, in the latest LPBW season, Matt and his ex-wife Amy Roloff get into a heated discussion about whether the road separating their two properties is called a neck or a flag lot. But it turns out that it may have been orchestrated.

“When Amy and I argued about whether it’s a neck or a flag lot, we were just trying to make television,” Matt said, according to In Touch Weekly. “We know that those are the kinds of arguments back-and-forth that create interest and people like to hear.”

He continued: “Unfortunately, some people don’t get the humor in all that, they take it real seriously, they get mad at one of us, but it’s all just sort of poking each other in the rib to create some drama.”

Matt went on to explain that he prefers to live a calmer life off-camera. “I like to joke with people that I don’t do drama in normal life, I like to only get paid for my drama,” he said. “So, when we’re doing the show, we create drama. And Amy does, too. We’re both doing the same thing.”

This comes after his recent appearance on the podcast First Class Fatherhood, which he spoke about producers doing “a lot of [time] compression.” Matt believes it makes it look like he and Amy are “always at each other’s throats” when they’ve been getting along for a while before an argument ensues.

Well, it is reality TV after all.
