Material Good Opens Its Second Outpost in Miami Just in Time for Art Basel

Material Good first opened its doors in New York City back in 2015 with a retail concept that is a pure reflection of the brand’s ethos. The space was carefully selected and designed to feel residential rather than commercial, situated on the second floor at 120 Wooster Street in the heart of Soho. There, you can explore the brand’s thoughtfully curated selection of fine jewelry, rare timepieces, and other collectibles from the comfort of a plush couch in an art-filled space that’s just as cozy as your best friend’s living room. That’s exactly the experience Material Good wants you to have in its stores—here, we’re just friends sharing a mutual love of beautiful objects, hanging out, and browsing some really cool wares. Now, the brand is bringing this concept to Miami Beach with its second outpost just in time for Art Basel.

Material Good’s new location will embody the same warm and inviting spirit as its NYC flagship with a look and feel that’s distinctly Miami along with an exclusive selection of jewelry, watches, and art. Located at 119 Washington Avenue in the South of Fifth area, the new Material Good features massive windows, flooding the space with natural light and offering stunning views of Miami Beach from every room. In addition, the concept offers a private terrace, several lounge areas, and fine art from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Prince, and Salvador Dalí.

Attention to detail is at the core of Material Good’s approach to curating its spaces, from the aesthetic itself to the wares available for purchase. For the Miami storefront, the brand wanted to emulate the intimate, residential feel of the NYC space while bringing in the vibrant energy that’s unique to Miami. Co-founder Michael Herman’s office was the first room to be designed and set the tone for the rest of the space. It started with a painting from his personal collection, Liu Wei’s “NUDITY No.6, 2021,” and then a custom designed desk and table to fit the space. For the desk, Herman wanted a “wow” moment, and opted for one made of solid marble. Alternatively, for the table, it needed to be grand—something to host an intimate dinner or a trunk show. In addition, the bold painting is framed by custom travertine shelves. The overall approach beautifully marries form and function with a Miami twist.

You can see these same touches all throughout the space, with plenty of places to sit, mingle, and browse intermixed with pops of color from the array of art pieces. Of course, when it comes to the collection of jewelry, watches, and collectibles, the display is equally intentional. Material Good Miami welcomes several new and exclusive jewelry designers to the location including Nikos Koulis, Dries Criel, and Silvia Furmanovich. In addition, there are a few particularly special watches that have been selected for the Miami outpost. There’s an AP Royal Oak 5402A, a diamond-set vintage Cartier Crash, a Rolex Daytona Paul Newman, and a couple variations of the Patek Nautilus 3700 just to name a few standouts.

Material Good’s brand new Miami Beach location officially opens its doors today and will be open Monday-Friday by appointment. For more information and to book your visit, head over to the Material Good website.
