Master gardeners host free tree planting, gardening event

Apr. 23—CALDWELL COUNTY — N.C. State Extension master gardeners are hosting a free gardening and tree-planting event from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday, April 26, at the City of Lenoir Unity Park Community Garden. Participants can get a free tree to plant at their home, according to a press release from the city.

Master gardeners will give presentations on gardening techniques, tree-planting, raised-bed gardening, and composting. Volunteers will give a tour of the native pollinator plants at the garden, and there will also be a kid-friendly seed-sowing activity, according to the press release.

The "Learn. Grow. Share." series aims to promote community outreach by bringing people together to explore the wonders of gardening. With research-based insights, educational programs, and engaging outreach initiatives, the goal is to empower North Carolinians to cultivate healthy plants, landscapes, ecosystems and communities.

Anyone interested in attending this event should call the Caldwell County Extension office at 828-757-1290 or email Sarah Christas at sarah_christas@ncsu.edu. Each family will leave with a free, native tree to plant at their homes, while supplies last.

The Master Gardeners plan to host more "Learn. Grow. Share." events at Unity Park Community Garden on June 8, July 25, and Sept. 12.
