Massachusetts Man with Cancer Seeks Home For His Beloved Dog Before He Passes

David Fine, of Plainville, Massachusetts, is dying of cancer, and before he passes he has one last wish, to find the perfect home for his beloved dog of 10 years.

It's always so heartbreaking having to re-home a pet, but hearing how this man speaks about his precious dog is such a testament to how much he's loved her and wants her to live out the rest of her life in the most wonderful home.

CNYC Central reported this story and it's just as heartbreaking as you'd expect, Fine is reported as saying,  "She’s the most important thing at this point. My fate is sealed, but hers is not, so, I have to make sure she gets as many good years out of the rest of her life as I can," he said. “I don’t want her to feel bad and she’s going to. We’re attached at the hip and when I don’t come home she’s going to know it, and I’ve got too much empathy and that’s what’s the hardest part.”

The article continues, "To make things easier for Babs, for a few months now he has been searching.

He said he has never been married and has no children, other extended family members can't take her because they have pets, and she needs to be the only pet in the household.

Fine also explained that, “I’d like to find somebody like me you know, someone that wants a companion to greet you at the door, when you come in be happy to see you," he said. "She loves to dig, so they would need to keep an eye on her and she doesn't do well with stairs."

Here's hoping this wonderful dog owner finds the perfect home for Babs.

Here's hoping that due to the media attention this story is getting that Babs finds a perfect new home quickly, and this is one of the most valid reasons someone can have for having to re-home their beloved pet.

Sometimes people die, or lose their home, or they have to move into a nursing home that doesn't allow pets, and they have no family who can take their pet.

Checking with your veterinarian about whether they know someone looking for a pet is a good idea, as well as calling or stopping in to your local animal shelter or Humane Society and asking about resources.

Social media is another place to start, and local groups like NextDoor may have someone looking for a pet. Be sure and check references and have someone meet the potential adopter if possible.

It's such a heartbreaking thing to have to re-home a dog or cat, especially in times of family tragedy, but sometimes that really is your only option.

Our hearts go out to everyone making this decision and we hope all pets finds their new loving forever family that will care for them as wonderfully as their previous owner did.
