A 'Masked Singer' Star Left the Show “Very Upset” and Shocked by Robin Thicke

Season 6 of The Masked Singer has made fans feel every kind of emotion. This Wednesday, Queen of Hearts and Bull are putting it all on the line to win the golden mask trophy in the season finale of the hit Fox singing competition show. That means, unfortunately, third place winner Banana Split — A.K.A. David Foster and Katharine McPhee Foster — will be watching from afar.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Grammy-winning music producer and American Idol alum opened up about their experiences on The Masked Singer. As it turns out, the husband and wife were approached several times about getting up on stage and competing. After much convincing, the duo finally said yes, and after their unmasking, they couldn’t stop gushing how “really, really wonderful” it was. That is, until David and Katharine were eliminated.

“I was very upset that we got kicked off,” Katharine told the magazine. “[David was] looking at me like, ‘That’s okay, baby’ — and I was just so disappointed. I really wanted to take it all … I came in second on American Idol. I wanted to take this one home and it just didn’t happen again. So maybe it’s just not in the cards for me to be number one.”

But this wasn’t the only disappointment. From their first performance, Masked Singer panelists Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg were confident that the dessert-inspired contestants were the actress and Canadian composer. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke had a hunch it was Ryan Tedder and Leona Lewis. As everyone now knows, it was, in fact, David and Katharine under the banana peel and scoops of ice cream.

Hilariously, Katharine didn’t quickly forget that Robin guessed incorrectly — but perhaps, it was intentional. “I think he knew exactly who we were, he just didn't want to — he wanted to do some good old fashioned TV acting and not make it such a home run for all the judges,” she told the outlet. “So I think he knew. There's no way he wouldn't know who David is. He would just know the way David's mannerisms were. He's known you since he was a baby … because David was best friends with his dad.”

Before his death in December 2016, Robin’s father, Growing Pains actor Alan Thicke, described David as “a lifelong friend of mine” who “spotted [Robin’s] talent” in his early days, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Reacting to the unmasking of Banana Split, Robin tweeted, “WOOOOOW! 🤯 What a reveal!!” So, did he really have no clue? We may never know. Regardless, there’s nothing sweeter than a full circle moment like this one!
