Mary-Kate Olsen Said She Was Afraid Husband Olivier Sarkozy Would Force Her Out of Their Apartment

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Mary-Kate Olsen had requested an emergency order to file for divorce from her husband of nearly five years, French banker Olivier Sarkozy. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, New York courts aren’t currently accepting divorce filings unless they’re deemed emergency cases. Though Olsen’s request for a divorce has since been considered “not essential” by a New York State Supreme Court judge, newly uncovered quotes from the former child star’s emergency affidavit paint a concerning picture.

"This application is an emergency because my husband expects me to move out of our home on Monday, May 18, 2020, in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19,” Olsen said, according to People.

"I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home that we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well,” she continued, noting that she is "gravely concerned that my husband will dissipate, dispose of and/or secret not only my separate property belongings but also our marital property belongings that are in the Gramercy Apartment."

"My husband is trying to force me out of our home by his failure to renew the lease on the Gramercy Apartment which he terminated without my consent," Olsen said, adding that vacating the apartment in the window provided is “impossible given the COVID-19 pandemic.” Olsen continued, "It is also impossible for me to find a new apartment on such short notice."

Due to the ruling, it seems the divorce will be put on hold until the courts reopen.
