The Marvels Trailer Flies In
Marvel’s released its fight-filled trailer for The Marvels, and the gloves are well and truly off. Check out the spaceship full of alien cats, Ms. Marvel’s powers in full flow, and the destructive new hammer-wielding villain, all set to a remix of Intergalactic by Beastie Boys.
According to Marvel’s official synopsis: “When [Captain Marvel’s] duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels."
This interplay between the three superheroines is central to the film. According to Rambeau in the trailer, the villain has somehow linked their powers together, causing them to switch places whenever they use them. It’s a smart way of limiting Captain Marvel in particular, who’s considered among the most devastating forces in the MCU.
She’s going to want to avoid firing off a photon beam in space if she doesn’t want to instantly summon her young protégé Ms. Marvel, because not everyone can breathe in a vacuum. The three-way dynamic also looks to elevate fights as the trio combine powers in exciting ways, as seen towards the end of the trailer.
