At long last, we now know who the Fantastic Four will be played by in Marvel’s upcoming reboot. The cast for the movie has been a topic of debate among fans ever since the movie was announced over four years ago. While we were already partially spoiled by the casting of Reed Richards, we now have confirmation of the core members comprising Marvel’s first family.

The Fantastic Four’s official cast is:

  • Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic

  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman

  • Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch

  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing

Marvel Studios dropped the announcement on Valentine’s Day with a teaser poster. The poster shows mockups of the cast dressed in retro garb. The poster seemingly confirms that the film is set in 1963, as The Thing can be seen reading the December 13, 1963 edition of LIFE magazine.

Marvel hasn’t revealed any more details regarding the plot of the film, but the Fantastic Four is expected to play a vital role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. If the latter film is inspired by the eponymous 2015 comic-book run, as teased in the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser, then expect Victor Von Doom to make an appearance in Fantastic Four as well. The poster also confirms the appearance of H.E.R.B.I.E., a robotic ally of the group who was introduced in the animated series The New Fantastic Four.

Beyond the casting announcement, the film also has a new release date set in July. This pits the film against DC’s upcoming Superman: Legacy, with a gap of just two weeks between the juggernauts.

With The Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World and Blade set to release next year, it looks like Marvel Studios is lining up a series of blockbuster hits after the failure of its last few releases. In contrast to that, Deadpool & Wolverine remains the only theatrical release from Marvel this year. With production ramping up soon, expect the first footage from the film to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con if Marvel joins the festivities.

WandaVision director Matt Shakman is helming The Fantastic Four, slated to release theatrically on July 25, 2025.
