MCU fans are aware that there are franchise crossovers and references often made in new Marvel movies – and the latest one to appear seems to be in the new Eternals trailer.

The Eternals trailer, released yesterday (May 24), seems to make not one, but two subtle references to the Captain America franchise.

One viewer made a connection after the trailer's launch, sharing their theory on Twitter. The tweet featured a picture from Eternals, as well as a picture of the first Captain America shield.

The shield is placed on the interior wall of a plane, behind a bar, and it can be clearly seen in the background around a minute and thirty seconds into the Eternals trailer.

This isn't the only reference to the franchise either as another viewer spotted a shield that appears to have a similar design to Cap's round shield, complete with a star in the centre.

The tweet reads: "Here's a better look at the Captain America style shield in the Eternals! #Eternals #Marvel."

You'll have to be a bit faster to spot that reference, though – it appears very briefly at about 57 seconds into the trailer.

What's more, there's also a direct nod to Avengers: Endgame in the trailer, too.

Eternals is bringing a new group of superheroes to the MCU, the cast includes Game of Thrones star Richard Madden, Gemma Chan (in a different MCU role to Captain Marvel), Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.

The movie is directed by Nomadland's Chloé Zhao –who recently made history with her Oscar win. She is the second woman and first woman of color to win the Academy Award for best director.

Eternals is released on November 5.
