New Marvel Comics: Spiders, Visions, Aliens, and Predators

Wow, how time flies — it’s already time for another round of new Marvel comics. A few weeks back, I mentioned that we can probably expect to start seeing an uptick in new comics, and that uptick is certainly here in spades, with 19 new comics releasing this week from Marvel.

Most of those, of course, are new issues in existing lines, but there are plenty of brand-new lines to go around too. Guardians of the Galaxy Annual kicks off this week, wrapping up the Grootfall storyline we’ve been following for the past year — it’s a silly name, but by all accounts it should be pretty good.

We’ve got an interesting duo of 20th Century Studios comics, with Predator: The Last Hunt and Alien: Black, White & Blood both premiering with first issues this week. The latter is an anthology series, with a host of smaller stories focusing on the Alien universe, while the former is a four-issue series that continues the storyline set up in Predator: Day of the Hunter and Predator: The Preserve.

There’s also a new Star Wars: Visions line from Takashi Okazaki, but the most interesting of the new lines is Edge of Spider-Verse, which sounds absolutely incredible. It features the introduction of the spider-like Weapon VIII — if that sounds familiar, it should, because VIII was one of the earlier successes in the same experiment that turned Logan into Wolverine, also known as… Weapon X. It also reintroduces Spider-Byte, who got a lot of attention after her introduction in Across the Spider-Verse last year.

Future issues of Edge of Spider-Verse will introduce even more interesting Spider-People, including Star-Spider and Spooker-Man, and bring back older characters too, like Cyborg Spider-Man and Web-Weaver. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on for Spider-Man fans, we may even find the next Spider-Gwen.
