Martinsburg entrepreneur committed to giving back to community with bakery

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (DC News Now) — Meet Sharese Smith, a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, both as a driver and delivering meals to the homebound as a helper in the volunteer organization’s busy kitchen.

Her passion for helping those in need led her to launch her own line of baked goods and doggie treats for delivery, and to share with numerous non-profits in the service area.

At farmers’ markets, on the grounds of Martinsburg’s iconic Roundhouse, Smith will be offering her specialties, from which proceeds will help community groups like Meals on Wheels.

“For the other vendors and the other entrepreneurs who are there at the Roundhouse,” Smith said. “There are farmers who market fresh produce which is typically not something that is available in downtown Martinsburg.”

Come Monday, Smith will be back on her delivery routes especially as Memorial Day is a holiday when Meals on Wheels is typically short-staffed.
