The reigning World's Strongest Man, Martins Licis, just proved that even when he's not performing at his best, he's still better than most. In a workout video shared to Instagram, the Latvian strongman demonstrated how he's adjusted his training routine while recovering from a recent accident that left him requiring stitches — and then showed off that he is still able to squat more than 400 pounds.

"A few weeks ago I got hit by a car while riding my bike," he explained. "Got stitches in my left elbow, hurt my left shoulder and bruised my tailbone. Luckily, no fractures or broken bones! Oddly enough, light-ish, paused, zombie squats are the only squats that don’t hurt excruciatingly right now. So here’s the heaviest weight I’ve lifted in a few weeks! 407lb (185kg) smooth, briefly paused, zombie squats."

He then followed his squats with the first set of farmer's carries he's been able to pull off since prior to the accident.

Training through injury has become a recurring theme for Licis in 2020. After scraping by in the Arnold Classis 2020, he has been making the most of his time away from competitions in quarantine to focus on repairing damage to his knee, working with Dr. Aaron Horschig, DPT of Squat University to correct some recurring an injury in his knee that had been causing pain and affecting his coordination. Part of that recovery process has involved incorporating more stabilizing exercises into his workouts, training for stability and mobility as well as strength.

And that hard work is paying off: Licis went rep-for-rep with previous World's Strongest Man title holder Hafthor Bjornsson, aka The Mountain, in a remote training session during lockdown.
