Martha Stewart Shines in Dennis Basso Suit at FGI Night of Stars Gala 2023

Martha Stewart arrived on the red carpet for the 2023 Fashion Group International Night of Stars Gala in New York on Tuesday taking an ethereal approach to style. The entrepreneur and television personality wore a sparkly white jumpsuit with a matching jacket that featured a statement flower accent on the shoulder. Her look, created by Dennis Basso, was completed with metallic silver peep-toe shoes.

Basso accompanied Stewart on the red carpet wearing a classic black-and-white tuxedo. The designer is known for his formal suiting looks when it comes to his own style.

“Fashion and trends evolve, change and rearrange, but good solid fashion remains,” Basso said in an interview with WWD in September. “I’ve been wearing the same thing for the past 60 years. With a good blazer and khakis, or a nice well-cut pair of jeans with a white buttoned-down shirt and a pair of loafers, a man is home free. You just need a tuxedo and a navy suit and you’re ready to go.”

Stewart presented Basso with the 2023 Fashion Group International Lifetime Achievement Award. She’s been a front-row guest at the designer’s shows during New York Fashion Week over the years. Basso has designed for New Yorkers and top celebrities for more than 35 years. His clients have included Jennifer Lopez, Lisa Rinna and Mary J. Blige.

At Basso’s 2023 New York Fashion Week show, notable socialite Cornelia Guest served as his muse. The pair have been friends for 40 years and Guest was one of his earliest clients. Guest closed the designer’s spring 2023 runway show in September.

“Great American families” was the theme for Basso’s spring 2024 collection, which played up intergenerational dressing. Guest was dubbed the “Debutante of the Decade” in 1986, and is the daughter of C.Z. Guest, a known socialite and tastemaker in New York City.
