Martha Stewart Shares Her First Thoughts After Landing the SI Swimsuit Cover

Martha Stewart is, once again, proving that age is nothing but a number.

The home decor mogul graces the cover of the May 2023 issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, chatting with the famed publication about how it felt to be tapped for the coveted spot.

"I'm going to be the oldest person, I think, ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated," she realized. The photoshoot for the project took place on location at luxury resort Casa de Campo in Dominican Republic.

The 81-year-old continued, giving insight into why exactly it means so much to her at this point in her life—and her reasoning is just as much motivating as it is inspiring.

"I don't think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic, and that I better look really good, because I want other women to feel that they could also be on the cover of Sports Illustrated," she explained of her initial thoughts after learning she'd be at the very forefront of the issue.

In recent years, Martha has cemented herself as a social media sensation, often posting "thirst traps" that never cease to delight internet users, so the positioning of this gig actually seems right up her alley.

In 2020, a poolside picture of Stewart with pursed lips and smoldering eyes went viral on social media, with many commenting on how attractive she looked.

Just last week, the Martha Stewart Living creator spoke with InStyle about how "fantastic" it feels to be recognized as a "bona fide sex symbol" at her age, again citing how the point of it all is to be a "good example for others."

"I'm a teacher. I'm trying to teach others that you can look great. There's no reason to slump around," she told the publication.
