What better way to enjoy a crisp fall day than with a bike ride? Well, Martha Stewart had the same idea herself. Just a few days ago, she posted a photo on Instagram of herself taking a Pedego e-bike out for a scenic fall ride.

Seems completely innocuous. But one commenter, first noticed by the account @commentsbycelebs, found something negative to say about it-basically, that the 77-year-old was “too old to bike safely,” and that she should set an example for the rest of us to “give up thinking we can still do it all.”

Stewart, known for everything from cooking with Snoop Dogg to being the ultimate party planner, does not let her age define her or her choice of fitness activities-and didn’t stand for the public age-shaming on social media. She took to the comments section to respond to the criticism.

“I feel sorry for you if you think I am too old to bicycle. I keep in excellent shape by doing many outdoor and indoor exercises and activities!!!!!!!” Stewart responded to her hater.

Martha, we hear you-and the commenter should, too. There are tons of scientifically-proven health benefits of cycling, including research that actually shows that it can slow down the aging process. Cycling builds muscle, which can help reduce age-related muscle decline. It also can help boost your immune system function, too.

Keep riding past the haters, Martha, and know that you’re reaping major health benefits.
