Yes, it’s true! Discovery Communications is launching its very own streaming platform, aptly named discovery+, early next year. Now if you’re reading this and are already overwhelmed by the growing number of streaming services on the market, we can relate. It can be hard to know which streaming service is the overall best value for you and your family.

Here’s the skinny: If you love Chip and Joanna Gaines, Bobby Flay, Oprah Winfrey, and Martha Stewart, discovery+ will most likely be a no-brainer purchase. But there’s so much more than that! The platform will feature original programming that dives deep into LGBT history, the meth crisis, and unsolved cases that have stumped even the most skilled detectives. Plus, Long Island Medium and 90 Day Fiancé will have their very own spinoff series exclusive to the platform.

What is discovery+?

Similar to Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, discovery+ is a subscription only streaming platform where customers can watch hundreds of shows and movies from an internet-enabled device such as a computer, smartphone, tablet, or television. Each month, customers will pay a monthly fee to continue using the streaming service. Upon the launch in early January 2021, there will be over 2,500 titles to choose from on discovery+. This is officially the largest-ever content library for a new streaming service.

What can I watch on discovery+?

In short: a mix of your favorite non-fiction, real-life shows and movies as well as some new ones! For starters, you'll be able to watch your favorite shows from the Discovery Channel; however, that's only a sliver of the content library. As a refresher, Discovery Inc. oversees a handful of popular TV channels in addition to the Discovery Channel. Which means you'll be able to watch past and present seasons of top shows from HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, OWN, Travel Channel, and Animal Planet. A full series list is TBA.

Discovery also recently partnered with the following networks: A&E, The HISTORY Channel, Lifetime, and BBC to bring even more content to this streaming platform.

Furthermore, discovery+ has teamed up with some of the world's most popular online media publications. Have you ever read The Dodo, NowThis, or Thrillist? On discovery+, you’ll be able to watch all new original programs from these outlets.

Prices start at $4.99 per month with ads, or $6.99 a month for an ad-free viewing experience.

How many people can watch discovery+ at once?

Each discovery+ account will include up to five user profiles and four concurrent streams.

Discovery+ original series

As we already mentioned, discovery+ will be home to a number of new series led by some of your favorite TV personalities. Think: Ben Napier, Will Packer and Kevin Hart, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis, Duff Goldman, Amy Schumer, Carla Hall, David Schwimmer, Sir David Attenborough, Sebastian Maniscalco, Joe Kenda, Mike Rowe, and many others.

Discovery+ will also become the home to all-things 90 Day Fiancé. In addition to the franchise's existing titles, discovery+ will introduce three new 90 Day spinoff series that can only be watched on the platform.

Here are just a few of the brand-new shows that will be available:

Home Town: Ben’s Workshop

In this new series, HGTV's master woodworker Ben Napier will invite celebrity guests into his workshop for an epic woodworking project! Guests include astronaut Scott Kelly, tennis legend Martina Navratilova, comedian Loni Love, and country singer Chris Lane. Upon completion, Napier and his celebrity apprentice will make surprise visits to donate their creations to folks in the community.

Bobby and Giada in Italy

Prepare for the ultimate road trip across the most delicious country! In this new series, longtime pals Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis will take viewers on a culinary tour of Italy.

Clipped

Get ready for a never-before-seen competition! In Clipped, topiarists will be pitted against each other in cutting edge challenges. With $50,000 on the line, these real life Edward Scissorhands will be asked to sculpt, design, and create stunning pieces using only plants! Actor Michael Urie will host, while Martha Stewart will step in as head judge. Lifestyle/landscape expert Chris Lambton and renowned landscape designer Fernando Wong will assist Stewart in crowning the "Clipped Champion."

Mysterious Planet

Friends' David Schwimmer will narrate this new special. Mysterious Planet will take viewers at home on an epic journey to the ends of the earth while unlocking the greatest mysteries behind the world’s most incredible species.

Queen of Meth

This first-hand documentary will tell the story of the meth industry's queen, Lori Arnold, who led a multimillion-dollar enterprise that manufactured and distributed the drug throughout the Midwest in the '80s.

Duff’s Happy Fun Bake Time

This family-friendly series stars chef Duff Goldman alongside a playful cast of puppet friends from The Jim Henson Company. Goldman will teach viewers at home the basics of cooking and how ingredients work together to create the food we love.

90 Day Bares All

90 Day Bares All is one of three 90 Day spinoffs. In this companion series, past 90 Day couples will be in the hot seat as host Shaun Robinson pries into their personal lives with some juicy and invasive questions. Lies and secrets will be revealed!

Discovery+ and Magnolia Network

As you may already know, Chip and Joanna Gaines are in the process of launching their own TV network with Discovery, titled Magnolia Network. This network will be broadcast on cable television and will take over the channel previously known as the DIY Network. Unfortunately, the network’s launch date has been pushed back a few times due to COVID-19.

If you’re like us and you just can’t wait anymore, there’s some good news. discovery+ will be offering users the chance to watch to some of most-anticipated (and never-before-aired) shows on Magnolia Network before the official launch. Titles include the Fixer Upper reboot, as well as Joanna Gaines's new cooking series Magnolia Table. Note: This preview will be exclusive to discovery+ users until Magnolia Network launches later in 2021.
