Just when you thought Married At First Sight Australia couldn't get more dramatic than the Dominique / Olivia saga, fans speculate about whether Brett and Tamara and Ellie and Mitchell have swapped partners, and are now in new relationships.

Wow. Every season of MAFSA gets more chaotic than the previous one, doesn't it? In the last series, Ella Ding and Mitchell Eynaud tied the knot, while Brent Vitiello and Tamara Djordjevic were paired up at the altar.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be, with both couples revealing they weren't together during the Reunion episode. But in a strange turn of events, rumours started to swirl that Mitch and Tamara were now a thing - and Brent and Ella were giving a romance a go, too.

Addressing the rumours in a new interview with New Idea, Brent explained, "Me and Ella have spoken, we are really, really close. We've had the conversation that if we had been matched, things would've turned out amazingly and we were a lot more suited."

He continued, "We’re not entertaining too much right now for the simple fact that Ella is still hurt, she’s going through a lot, and this has been a huge experience, so we’re not the types to try and jump in or just because everyone wants us to.

"We are just spending time together as really good friends and if something happens, it does, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t."

Later, though, Ella also addressed the romance rumours, sounding a little more damning of any relationship speculation. "Brent and I are not dating, we're not seeing each other, we haven't kissed," she told 9 Now.

"We do hang out, we actually spend a bit of time together but I'm just not ready. Like I'm just not there. My head is so far from trusting and emotionally investing in another man, it's the furthest thing from my mind right now and he knows."

Interestingly, Brett also shared a series of photos alongside Ella and fellow contestant Al Perkins on 26 April, with the caption, "These 2 humans give me more life than you can imagine. What a wild little trip we had in Melbourne and grateful for the memories. Not as grateful for the hangovers though."

Only time will tell whether these two end up together, but one thing is for sure: we'll be refreshing their Instagram accounts for any signs.
