Mark Ruffalo Wants a 'Hulk Vs. Wolverine' Movie in the MCU
Avengers: Endgame is now firmly in the rearview, and the fate of pretty much every member of the core Avengers team has been made clear. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have both stepped away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after giving Captain America and Iron Man their respective, suitably heroic sendoffs. Black Widow's story also came to an end in a moment of self-sacrifice, although we still have that solo movie with Scarlett Johansson to come set in the post-Civil War period. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will return in his fourth movie, Love & Thunder. And Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will be helping to usher in the Young Avengers with his upcoming Disney+ series.
But what of Professor Hulk? Mark Ruffalo's performance as the newly chill, cardigan-wearing big green dude was one of many unexpected turns in Endgame. And while his arc seemed to reach its natural climax when he was able to use his resistance to gamma radiation to don the Infinity Gauntlet and undo The Snap, fans were left uncertain as to what the character would do next.
Don't worry, though: Ruffalo has some thoughts on that.
"Kevin Feige just asked me last week if I had any more ideas or stories for the Hulk," the actor told the audience during a panel at Tokyo Comic Con. "And I said yeah, I think there’s still some stories to tell. And he said, 'Well why don’t you come in and tell me about them and we’ll see if we can find a place for you in the Marvel universe?'"
He added that he had one immediate answer: “Hulk vs. Wolverine," he said. "I’d like to see that. Hulk vs. Wolverine.”
Honestly, same.
While Wolverine has been a member of the Avengers previously in Marvel Comics, rights issues have kept him and other X-Men characters out of the MCU — until now. Joe Russo, director of Endgame, has previously joked that the movie might have ended very differently if Wolverine and the X-Men had been around, and now the mutants are officially joining the MCU, although it remains to be seen in what capacity.
Pitting Wolverine and the Hulk against each other could be a great way to reintroduce the character, presumably played by a new actor. Hugh Jackman has played the gruff Canadian mutant since 1999's X-Men, but now that the rights to the character belong to Marvel Studios, Daniel Radcliffe, Taron Egerton and Keanu Reeves have all been rumored to be up for the part.
Having Wolverine face off against an iconic figure like the Hulk, then teaming up with him to defeat a bigger foe, could make for a great ensemble adventure — especially since it's fair to say those Wolverine solo movies have varied wildly in quality.
