Do not get on the bad side of Mark Ruffalo. According to the Hulk actor, he once slapped Channing Tatum so hard it burst his eardrum.

The admission came during an episode of YouTube show Hot Ones, when Ruffalo recalled filming 2014 wrestling drama Foxcatcher.

Tatum “did ask me to slap the shit out of him,” says Ruffalo, and “it was easy to do because he’d beaten the shit out of me so many times.”

The film, based on the true story of John du Pont and the Olympic wrestler he murdered in a manic rage in 1996, required extensive wrestling knowledge on the parts of both Ruffalo and Tatum.

The pair had “like four months of wrestling, of learning how to wrestle together,” says Ruffalo.

However, Tatum had “30 pounds on me, so when it came time to smack the shit out of him, I was like, ‘came from Alabama,’” and his ear drum burst in the impact.

Ruffalo is thankfully less violent in his next film, fantasy/sci-fi drama Poor Things, which releases January 12, 2024.
