Mark Healey has done quite a few trips over the course of his life, but up until now, one in particular hasn’t come to fruition: exploring the rugged coastline of New Zealand’s South Island via helicopter.

Healey is a guy who likes to adventure. He’s far more than just a surfer, of course, so his options for adventure are many. Diving, spearfishing, and hunting are all huge parts of him, and the South Island is a good place to do all of those things. It’s not the most accessible, though, so a helicopter surely made things quite a bit easier. Add a couple of knowledgeable guides to the mix, and you’re sure to find yourself in a good spot, no matter what it is you’re looking to do.

Helicopters come with a set of problems, however. Weight restrictions are strictly enforced and dictate the amount of fuel onboard. With as much gear as Healey and his gang brought, it was a real worry, but they had their priorities straight.

“Dive gear and beers for sure,” says one of them. “We can leave the surfboards if we need to.”

Luckily, they were able to bring all the necessary equipment to make certain that they’d have as much fun as possible.
