Mark Consuelos Takes on Powerful New Role in Max Series ‘The Girls on the Bus’

Mark Consuelos, 52, is hitting the political campaign trail in the new Max series, The Girls on the Bus.

The streamer recently released the official trailer for the drama series across its social media channels. The two-minute clip begins with a voice-over, which says, “Here we are. Four political reporters. Rivals. Vicious competitors. Getting entirely out of control. Why? Because the state of American politics is the state of our own lives.”

The series (inspired by Amy Chozick’s best-selling novel, Chasing Hillary) follows a political journalist named Sadie McCarthy (played by Melissa Benoist), who has a fiery passion for American politics and covering the latest presidential candidate.

So, McCarthy joins a campaign bus with three female reporters, Grace (Carla Gugino), Lola (Natasha Behnam) and Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore). Despite being at constant odds with each other, the four women form a close-knit bond that’s more powerful than any political seat in the White House.

According to Deadline, Consuelos plays a “Hollywood action star-turned-politician” who secures his spot in the presidential race after a “Twitter poll said 46 percent of Americans would vote for him.” From that description alone, we can already tell that this role is going to be a huge contrast from his darker, sinister character in the CW’s Riverdale. 

In the trailer above, the Live with Kelly and Mark co-host can be seen riding on the back of a truck wearing nothing but an Aquaman bodysuit. (Already, we have so many questions.)

Chozick and Julie Plec, who co-created the hit show The Vampire Diaries, will serve as executive producers for the new drama series.
