7 New Christmas Movies Are Coming to Netflix This Winter

Deck the halls and get your holly jolly spirit ready, because Netflix is delivering a big batch of Christmas cheer this year. While there are still several months to go before the stockings are hung, the streaming service has already announced several new Christmas movies—and we're anticipating even more are on the way.

This holiday lineup has several firsts for the streaming platform, including an LGBTQ rom-com and a Spanish Christmas film. Plus, fans of The Princess Switch and The Princess Switch 2 have much to look forward to this winter. The third installment of the trilogy is set to premiere around Christmas—and this time, there are three lookalikes.

'A Boy Called Christmas'

Based on the popular novel A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig ($14, Amazon), this family-friendly flick details the origins of the jolly old man in the red and white suit. A young boy named Nikolas (spoiler alert: it’s Santa Claus) travels to the North Pole to find out about his past and fulfill his Christmas destiny.

'A Castle for Christmas'

Starring: Brooke Shields, Cary Elwes, and Andi Osho

Premieres: Winter 2021

When Sophie, a famous American author, travels to Scotland with the intent of buying a castle, she quickly butts heads with the current owner—a Scottish Duke named Myles. We’re willing to bet this romantic comedy ends with more than just a ‘sold’ sign.

'A Thousand Kilometers from Christmas'

Starring: Tamar Novas, Peter Vives, Andrea Ros, Verónica Forqué, and Fermí Reixach

Premieres: December 2021

This Spanish romantic comedy details the Scrooge-like story of a man in his mid-30s who reluctantly embraces the Christmas spirit—and quickly gets carried away with it.

'Auntie Claus'

When a materialistic young girl visits her eccentric aunt, she’s determined to figure out Auntie Claus’ secret (namely, where she goes on her big ‘business trip’ each holiday season). While she’s visiting, the girl learns the true meaning of Christmas, and the importance of giving to others. Based on the book Auntie Claus by Elise Primavera ($11, Amazon) this family-friendly holiday flick is perfect for your first Christmas movie night of the season.

'Love Hard'

When a California girl decides to surprise her new East coast boyfriend with a holiday visit, she finds out she’s been catfished. When she figures out what’s been happening, her catfishing beau offers to set her up with the guy she thought she was talking to—but only if she poses as his date for the holidays.

'Single All the Way'

Netflix’s first same-sex holiday rom-com is set to release this winter, and we already can’t wait to queue it up.
