Marion Senior Center's salute to seniors set for May 13

Senior citizens are invited to the Marion Senior Center's annual Senior Citizens Day Celebration at noon May 13 at the Center, l2375 Harding Highway East. The theme is Powered by Connection.

The celebration is to honor Marion County’s elderly population. During the event and throughout the day, community members are encouraged to recognize and show appreciation for the value and contribution of elderly people to home, family and society.

Lunch will be catered by 88 Catering and served at noon. The menu features sliced beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, mixed vegetables, Hawaiian rolls with butter, poke cake and a beverage.

This year's Pearl R. Roberts Award will be presented during a special awards ceremony where senior volunteers will be recognized for their commitment, selfless giving and community service. The Pearl R. Roberts Award recognizes outstanding community service by a senior citizen and is named in honor of Pearl Roberts, who was instrumental in the development of the Marion Senior Center facility as well as many other programs and services for Marion area older adults.

Entertainment will feature Spittin’ Image, the musical duo of identical twins Blain and Brian Swabb.

There will door prizes, compliments of the corporate sponsors and friends of the center.

Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance at the Marion Senior Center.
