Mario Day 2024 Announcements: Every New Game Coming to Nintendo Switch

Every year, Nintendo celebrates March 10 as ‘Mario Day’, bringing news of the franchise's future, along with discounts on existing Mario products. This year’s MAR10 Day, as Nintendo calls it, brought a heap of announcements ranging from new Mario games to movies. Unfortunately, this year’s announcements mostly included news about remakes and remasters, snatching away any hope Super Mario Odyssey 2 believers had. There’s always next year when the Switch 2, or Super Switch, or whatever Nintendo calls it, is released.

Mario Day New Game Announcements
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

The Thousand-Year Door was the second game in the Paper Mario series and is widely considered to be the best one. The game was first announced to be in development last year, and it now has a release date - May 23, 2024.
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
Nintendo
Following Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD will be released on June 27, 2024. Unlike Paper Mario, this one's more of a remaster than a full remake. Still, it's looking considerably better than the original 3DS version of the game. The remaster will include the multiplayer modes
LEGO Super Mario Kart
Yes, a LEGO version of Mario Kart is in development and will be released next year. What does the game look like? We don't know. Will it include all the tracks from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? We don't know that either. Given that the next Switch is rumored to be released in early 2025, we won't be surprised to learn that LEGO Mario Kart will be a launch title, much like Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Mario Day Nintendo Switch Online Announcements
Those who are subscribed to NSO will soon be able to play the following games:
Dr. Mario (Gameboy)
Mario Tennis (Gameboy Color)
Mario Golf (Gameboy Color)
All three games will be added to the NSO library on March 12, 2024.
Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel

Besides games, Nintendo also announced that is has once again partnered with Illumination to produce a new Super Mario Bros. movie. While not explicitly announced as the sequel to 2023's smash hit, the movie will undoubtedly explore more of the world introduced there.
This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories. [1/2]

The film will be released on April 3, 2026, in the US, and will continue to open in many countries throughout the month. Given that the last film teased Yoshi in its post-credits scene, it may be safe to assume the dinosaur's big-screen debut in this next film.

With all of Mario Day's announcements out of the way, we now have a good idea of how Nintendo's 2024 will look like. Unsurprisingly, most of Nintendo's games this year aren't new entries in big franchises and are focused on ports, remakes, and remasters. Given that Nintendo has a quieter year right before a new console is released, this gives credence to the reports of the Switch 2 coming in 2025. Until then, we've got plenty of good games to look forward to.
