Marine’s 4-Year-Old Son Cries in His New Stepmom’s Arms During the Couple’s Wedding Vows: Watch the Emotional Video
When U.S. Marine Corps. Sgt. Joshua Newville exchanged vows with Senior Airman Emily Leehan on Saturday, July 22, the groom’s young son Gage shared in the moment in the most precious way.
After the pair had recited their personalized vows to each other, the bride produced a sheet of paper with a special set of vows just for 4-year-old Gage. Shortly after she began reading the touching words, Gage was overcome by emotion and wrapped his arms around Leehan’s legs, crying into the bride’s wedding dress.
As their gathered loved ones looked on, both Leehan and Newville shared a few chuckles at Gage’s tearful reaction and Newville gently hugged his son next to him so Leehan could finish her words. “I may not have given you the gift of life, but life surely gave me the gift of you,” she concluded. Leehan and Gage shared a hug and a kiss afterward.
Photographer Jess Husted of Jessica Husted Photography also documented the emotional moment with her camera. The officiant is even seen wiping away tears as the child cries. “It was an absolute honor,” Husted tells The Knot. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It was one of the most moving ceremonies I’ve ever [witnessed]… Their wedding day from start to finish was beyond breathtaking. I wish them nothing but love and happiness.”
“When she started reciting the vows, that’s when the emotion took over and he lost it,” Newville told ABC News. “The whole day was pretty emotional, so I was just trying to keep myself together and keep him together.”
The newlyweds and their friends and family praised Gage afterward for making a special day even more memorable. “We were telling him, ‘You did awesome,’ and our family and friends were saying that and told him he made it even better,” Newville said.
Later, Gage, who is a huge Star Wars fan, seemed to regain his spirits when he marched into the reception hall with the bridal party with a Darth Vader mask on his head.

Both Leehan and Newville are currently on active military duty, so will postpone their honeymoon for now. They will instead return to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, where they both serve together.
