Whether you've watched Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix or not, you've probably heard at least one person asking themselves "Does this spark joy?" before either neatly folding it in a drawer or thanking it, then tossing it in a donate pile. This KonMari Method, as Kondo's method came to be known, is Marie's genius approach to cutting your hoarding habits. More and more people are doing it to not just their homes, but for their pets, friendships, and even their dating lives. It is high time for spring cleaning, after all.

According to the Huff Post and various other op eds, KonMari-ing your dating life is actually incredibly cathartic. To do so, Marie's followers, like Glamour's Jennifer Lance, are cutting out people (both romantic and platonic) that don't bring them joy, being mindful of what they feel in any current relationships, and saying "thank you, next" to exes and/or anyone who's just not doing it for them. As Jennifer so astutely puts it, it's a way of "emotionally declutter[ing] and achiev[ing] the ultimate dating nirvana."

Just as Marie helped her fans see that items that don't spark joy need to go, she's now saving people's social lives as well. We choose to get rid of items we no longer need, so why not let go of the relationships we aren't getting joy from as well? It's genius, really.
